Venturing

Aside from exploring in territories, you can also venture in specific areas. While exploring gives you a whole variety of encounters and rewards, venturing is very goal-oriented. Each area only gives 1 or 2 specified stats and items exclusively found there.
Each area requires a certain minimum level character type horse in your herd to access it; for example, venturing the Ancient Archives requires a minimum level 4 sorcerer.

How does it work?

Similar to ‘encounters’, we call the situations you come across in areas ‘events’. There are currently 80 events; 20 in each area.

Events require you to allocate your stat points (foraging, strength, …), with a minimum of 5 and max of 15 points. You decide how much you put in; that amount of points represents your focus and expertise in performing the task at hand. Each area has specified which stat it requires: Wyvern Peaks takes stamina for example, while Rivenrock takes bravery. Each event also takes 5 energy.

Each event has its own complexity score. This represents how hard it is to harvest a herb due to its fragility, win a battle with an opponent, …
◾ If the amount of stat points you allocate matches the complexity score or more, there’s an 80% chance you will succeed at the task; i.e. you will harvest the herb, climb a mountain, …
◾ If you hit below the complexity score, there’s still a 20% chance of getting lucky and succeeding.

If you match or exceed the complexity score, it first rolls a 10% chance on getting the “bonus” outcome. Each event has a bonus option, though this will often just be a doubled/increased version of the normal “success” outcome (i.e. you get 2 of the item instead of just 1, or get a higher amount of stat points). A few events have special bonus rewards though – items you can only acquire this way.

Not succeeding at the task doesn’t necessarily mean your efforts were in vain. While some events are rewardless if you ‘fail’, others still gain you something. For example, you can fail to decipher a spell, but still gain a few black magic points for the experience.

The complexity score of an event is hidden information, but you won’t be left to completely shoot in the dark. The event text might give you some clues; for example, a herb being described as very delicate, a mountain being small, or assumptions you can make, such as that fighting a bear will take more strength than fighting a small animal.

Beware: some areas are dangerous! You could be wounded in a battle, or trip and fall in treacherous terrains. In these areas, failing at the task can cause you to lose health. If you have less than 20 health points, you won’t be able to venture in any area until you replenish it.
